about

The unexpected about this collaboration isn’t that it came to be, but rather that it took such a long time to actually happen. Being longtime friends, as well as fans of each other’s music, the connection was already there.

When Domus started work on their follow up to the acclaimed debut album Lucid Dreaming, they found that a couple of the tracks – although being something that could very well become great tracks – didn’t really fit with the rest of the music that was being created. And so the idea to ask Dag Rosenqvist if he’d be up for contributing came up. From there on things flowed effortlessly until two main tracks, spanning over 12 minutes in total, had been created.

Musically Transit/Sunrise merges the artist’s shared love of post rock, intricate arrangements, sound sculpting and atmospheric textures. Music that is sometimes more of a state of being or a mood than actual songs. And where the rhythms that are so significant in Domus’ music take a backseat for something more subdued, something calmer and at times less direct.

Transit/Sunrise is like that last leg of a nighttime bus journey from Hamburg to Gothenburg. As morning breaks while the sun is rising, slowly illuminating the clouds from below, turning everything into a pink and orange hue where you don’t know where the sky end and land begins. And you arrive at the terminal and step out into the crisp May morning. You look around. The city is still quiet and there’s still the faintest scent of morning dew in the air. And you put your headphones on, button up your jacket and you start walking.

Stockholm based duo Domus has fairly quickly carved a name for themselves with their blend of electronics and intricate rhythms, merging krautrock with synth, a postpunk attitude and a brilliant sense of melodies. With artistic integrity they present listeners with a spectrum of both known yet unknown emotions, with the aid from a mind-boggling hybrid of vintage synthesizers, effect pedals and electric bass.

Dag Rosenqvist is in many ways still a well-kept secret on the Swedish music scene. Having collaborated and worked mainly internationally, with for instance music for dance performances for the Royal Opera House in London, original scores for films from both Europe and the US – Dag has recorded and worked on over 50 releases, both solo and in various constellations on labels from USA, Germany, France, England, Russia and more. Dag has built a trademark of creating fractured, heartfelt music, made out of a seamless blend of acoustic and electronic sounds, ranging from the orchestral and overcharged to quiet and subtle motifs.
